Welcome to our blog! Over the coming months we will be documenting our frame-up restoration of our 1954 Terry Camper, Miss Dottie. We invite you to follow along with our adventure.
We purchased our trailer in November 2017 after seeing it advertised on Craigslist. Although the previous owners had good intentions and planned a full restoration, they never got past a cosmetic interior makeover. The trailer has been repainted several times, the most recent color being a very unfortunate shade of brown. Thus the nickname “The Turd”.
When we bought our camper we had hoped to have it restored and ready to hit the campgrounds in Spring 2018. We thought we would be able to strip the exterior, apply new paint inside and out, replace the electrical wiring, swap out the tires, and be on the road quickly. However, a more thorough inspection revealed the floor was rotten, and the exterior skin was beyond repair. We realized we would need to completely disassemble the camper, and start from the ground up. The need for a larger garage to properly restore Dottie led us to move to a new home. Now that she is settled into her cozy new digs – safe from the Pacific Northwest wind and rain – the fun can begin!
